ACT Fire and Rescue crews arrived at the Illawarra Court apartment block in Howie Court at about 5.30pm on Tuesday evening to find the blaze had already been extinguished, and worked to make the scene safe.
A person in the apartment, however, had been affected by the smoke, and had to be treated by paramedics at the seen before being taken to Calvary Hospital in a stable condition.
Initial investigations suggested the fire was caused by burnt food, a statement from the Emergency Services Agency said. Authorities have reminded the community, "don't stop looking while you're cooking".
In 2015, a fire in one unit at the complex prompted fears about toxic fumes and forced the evacuation of nearby units.
Police at the time said the fire had the potential to expand and engulf the dense apartment block, had one resident not have helped to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading.
Residents might have been forced to jump from the upper level of the complex, police said.
