The Opposition posed a series of questions about the controversial land swap deal in Question Time on Tuesday, which is currently being investigated by the territory's Auditor-General.

Under the late 2014 deal, the now-defunct Land Development Agency paid the union-aligned Tradies Group $3.55 million for a block of land it owns, and in return, the club group was meant to pay the government $3.18 million for a carpark in Dickson.

While the club group needs to pay for the block, it is understood the actual payment has not yet been made and is contingent on another nearby carpark being completed before the transfer is made.

Mr Gentleman on Monday announced those blocks of land will now be redeveloped into a public and private housing development, including Canberra's second Common Ground.

But the government is yet to decide on the specific details, saying instead it will be subject to community consultation and talks with the Common Ground board, though it is unclear whether it will be a public consultation or when it will start.

To date, the government has said only that the area was large enough to combine a mix of uses, including community facilities and private homes, in addition to the planned social housing.

Asked by Liberals' MLA Giulia Jones why the government did not act on using the site, bought in late 2014, until late this year, Mr Gentleman referred to previous documents he had tabled on the land swap deal.

Asked whether the government had actually received the remaining $3.18 million from the Tradies Group, he said it was "a matter to be dealt with" by the economic development directorate.

Opposition leader Alistair Coe also asked if he had any confidence that the $3.55 million already paid to the club group was not spent support Labor candidates or causes in an election.

"I'm not the minister for the Labor Party," he said.
