Prime7's new weather present, Karl Lijnders, is the partner of Dan Bourchier, the breakfast presenter on ABC Radio Canberra, and weeknight newsreader for ABC News.

Prime7 tells us that Lijnders is a "founding moderator" on weatherzone.com.au, writing and reporting on the weather since 1999.

He has been a consultant to the Australian Severe Weather Association and long-range forecaster for the AV Weather Company.

Prime7 head of news Paul Patrick welcomed Karl to the network.

"You won't find anyone else like Karl on regional television," Patrick said.

"Karl brings a passion to his job that will not only inform viewers but entertain them as well.

"His knowledge of weather is exceptional. He has the ability to strip back the science and make it palatable for us mere mortals."

For his part, Karl enjoys delivering what is fundamental information to his audience, not least on weeks like this when there is more than a bit of weather around.

"Weather is one of the few things that unite us all," Karl said.

"We are all affected by it, whether we live on the land, work in the office or go to school.

"I love helping people plan their day - 'What am I going to wear? Can I go fishing this weekend? Harvest our crops?' Or simply, 'Hang out the washing?'."

Dan, meanwhile, paid tribute to Karl upon this appointment to the ABC roles earlier this year, calling Karl "his rock".
