Two Canberra prison officers were taken to hospital on Sunday night after an altercation involving an inmate who had started a fire in his cell.

ACT Corrections and ACT Policing are investigating the incident, which occurred just two hours before another detainee lit a fire in his room and forced the evacuation of prisoners from nearby cells.
A spokeswoman for the ACT's justice and community safety directorate, which oversees the Alexander Maconochie Centre, said a detainee started a small fire in his cell about 6pm on Sunday.
The detainee attempted to attack prison officers when they opened his cell, before he was restrained and the fire extinguished, the spokeswoman said.
The detainee was not injured, but two officers were taken to Canberra Hospital for assessment of minor injuries suffered in the incident. Both remain in a stable condition.
The spokeswoman said in a separate incident, another detainee lit a small fire in his cell about 8pm.
"ACT Corrections officers evacuated the detainee from his cell and quickly extinguished the fire," the spokeswoman said.
"Several detainees in nearby cells were also evacuated as a precaution due to the presence of smoke."
The detainee was taken to Canberra Hospital after the incident, but has since been returned to the prison.
Police and emergency services were called out to the Hume prison for both fires.
The spokeswoman said staff were trained to respond to a range of emergency incidents, and had been working closely with ACT Fire & Rescue to improve fire management and prevention inside the prison.
An ACT Policing spokesman said they were investigating both fires, but could not provide any further information.
ACT Justice Minister Shane Rattenbury said the response to the incident showed the prison's fire protection and management systems were "effective and responsive".
