An ACT prisoner has been charged after escaping from custody while receiving treatment at the Canberra Hospital's mental health unit on Tuesday morning.

Barker was last seen at 2.15pm at the hospital when fled ACT Corrective Services. He escaped authorities until 8.47am on Wednesday when a member of the public told police he was in Braddon.
Barker appeared before Magistrate Karen Fryar in the ACT Magistrate Court on Wednesday afternoon, where his lawyer told the court he has a mental health condition.
No plea was entered and the matter has been adjourned until April 20.
