The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, had two counts of choking another person, a count of forcible confinement and a drug driving charge brought against him.

The court heard the man allegedly picked up his partner during an altercation and threw her onto a bed face down.

He then allegedly proceeded to put his knees into the woman's back and pinned her before allegedly choking the woman to such an extent she vomited.

In the statement of facts, read out to the court, the woman claimed the defendant said, "I'm going to kill our baby, I'm going to smash its head in, I'm going to smash your face in."

During the incident the man allegedly choked the victim another time.

The court heard the man has prior convictions for domestic violence and other acts of violence. The woman allegedly told police she had suffered violence from her partner on other occasions.

There is a domestic violence order against the man in New South Wales which had not been registered in the ACT. While the ACT charges do not affect that order, the magistrate said it was "clearly relevant".

The man was denied bail as the magistrate said no conditions could mitigate the risks the man posed to the victim. He will reappear in court later this month.
