Question Time: Simon Griffiths

The most interesting shed I discovered for the book was: the Souris's shed in Tasmania was amazing, an upturned boat formed the ceiling of the shed and circular windows made from old steel wheels that had been glazed, walls built from stone collected on their property and whitewashed. Built next to their dam with views over the ocean nearby, a shed I could happily live in.

First Shack, then Shed – next up is: Boat. I'm having lots of fun finding interesting old boats, but I'm still shooting sheds, so maybe another shed book too. I have been noticing lots of fab chook houses on my travels as well so maybe a book on chook houses.

Shacks and sheds appeal to me because: they cross all boundaries. Rich people and poor people alike can have sheds, the only limit is your imagination. Everyone thinks of sheds as a man's domain, I found just as many women had their own sheds as men. And everyone was willing to show their sheds, they were proud of them.

I have two fab sheds at home, one is for garden tools, it's small but ordered and holds everything I need for my garden, and has shelves for storing bulbs and dahlias during winter. The other one I have just converted into a darkroom, as I miss processing my own film and shooting and printing black and white photos. It's lots of fun, and keeps me busy. I am now planning the next shed!

When not taking photos I like to: garden, a lot, so if I'm not out working, chances are I'm weeding at home, or mucking around in one of my own sheds.
