The brother of the late and beloved Connie Johnson will be playing in a charity golf day at the Gungahlin Lakes Club on Thursday, March 29, raising money for the Love Your Sister.

Sam will also be travelling between Bunnings in Tuggeranong, Gungahlin and Fyshwick on April 1, Easter Sunday, selling sausages to also raise money for the foundation.

Both events have been organised by Canberra man and cancer survivor Craig Glover, the ACT general manager of Rutledge AV, which is sponsoring the golf day.

Now 32 and a father-of-two, Craig was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2001 when he was 16.

He underwent a year of chemotherapy and radiation before having the first stem cell transplant at the Canberra Hospital in 2002.

"It saved my life," Craig said.

Married to Jennifer and with beautiful kids Lucas, six; and Isabel, three; Craig was never able to return to school, due to the aggressive treatment and recovery. But through a casual job initially, he worked his way up the audio visual industry to now head the Canberra team of Rutledge AV.

Many years later he was moved watching the cancer battle of Connie Johnson, who died on September 8 last year.

"I watched the Love Your Sister journey on Facebook and there was a photograph of Connie in hospital that really spoke to me because I had spent a lot of time in hospital," Craig said.

"I reached out to Connie and she inspired me to get on board and make a difference."

Craig promised Connie before she died that he personally would raise $100,000 for Love Your Sister, a foundation established by the Johnson siblings which passes it on to the Garvan Institute of Medical Research to help rid the world of cancer.

"And it's a promise I'm determined to keep," he said.

Craig, who lives in Gowrie, started by raising $27,000 for Connie's Big Heart Project.

He hopes the golf day and good, old-fashioned sausage sizzles will significantly push the total towards the $100,000 goal.

Tickets to the golf day on March 29 are $250 and include breakfast, a corporate lunch and lots of prizes on offer. And, of course, a chance to tee off with Sam and get a selfie with him. Tickets are available from www.rutledge.com.au/golf

"He reckons he can't but I think he's been practising," Craig said, with a laugh. "He's a good actor."
