Following information from the public, police were able to return the Waramanga woman's scooter to her on Tuesday.

"It's absolutely wonderful, we told my grandma and she was so excited to have it back, it's just a huge relief for the family," said her granddaughter Teal.

The burglary happened on November 23, just weeks after the woman's husband of 64 years died, although she was spending time with her family and was not home at the time.

After a public appeal for information, police raided a house in Waramanga on Friday.

A man and woman have been summonsed to face court at a later date.

"The ACT policing and the Canberra community have been absolutely incredible," Teal said.

"ACT police got onto the job really quickly. We actually found the scooter really quickly because of the Canberra community and their help.

"Thank you so much for all your help.

Officer in charge of Tuggeranong Station Sergeant Chris Meagher praised the response from the public as outstanding and said it showed such a crime was unacceptable in the Canberra community.

"To prey on the fragility of a senior citizen is a cowardly act," he said.

"This should be a warning to anyone who deals in this sort of abhorrent activity – the rest of Canberra is watching you and they will report you to police."

The alleged thieves ransacked the woman's home and made off with jewellery as well as her mobility scooter.
