ACT Fire and Rescue were called to the home after part of a tree damaged the carport, emergency services said. They have passed the case to WorkSafe ACT for further investigation.

The call was one of 61 calls for help received by ACT State Emergency Service during and after Monday night's storm, which drenched the capital with almost 16 millimetres of rain in just one hour.

The clean-up continued well into Tuesday with ACT SES Majura and Belconnen units removing a large tree from a two-storey house on Cockburn Street, Curtin, on Tuesday afternoon.

Tuggeranong was pelted with 15.2 millimetres of rain in the space of one hour as of 9.30pm Monday, while 7.4 millimetres was recorded at Canberra Airport, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

It was the night for it after all, with Fairfax Media publishing leaked emails revealing internal turmoil in the federal Liberal Party.

Jokes aside, ACT State Emergency Service chief officer Tony Graham said SES volunteers and ACT Fire and Rescue firefighters responded to mostly fallen trees and branches across roads, driveways and footpaths.

Mr Graham said crews completed the last job around midnight.

The minor damage mostly fell in Canberra's southern suburbs.

Power outages were also confined to the southside.

Homes in Chifley, Fisher, Griffith, Kingston, Lyons, Waramanga, Narrabundah and Red Hill faced power outages from 8.40pm.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for areas mostly south of the ACT at 7.50pm including Braidwood, Cooma and Bombala.
