Six ACT Health services have been granted three-year accreditation despite the loss and curtailing of some services at the Canberra Hospital.

The report by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards, released on Tuesday, detailed accreditation for acute care, community health, day procedures, dental, mental health, and sub-acute services.
Minister for Health Simon Corbell said the report was a ''well-deserved recognition" for medical staff in Canberra and proved the ACT health system was among the best in Australia.
But the report is in contrast to two other accreditation reviews and an independent audit that were less positive about the state of the ACT health system.
In June, a damning ACT Auditor-General's report found errors in patient data collection had cost ACT Health up to $3 million from under-claiming.
During the same month, Canberra Hospital's urology training accreditation was stripped by the Board of Urology of the Australasian College of Surgeons due to concerns about internal culture and "significant disharmony" among staff.
In February, the Canberra Hospital's maternity clinic was given the shortest possible accreditation period of six months by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, due to cultural and long-running management programs.
These issues were not raised by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards, which gave a glowing indictment of the six services.
A team of 10 surveyors reviewed ACT Health services before accreditation was granted with the department meeting all but two of 256 assessment criteria.
The department was recognised with the highest rating available for 11 of the criteria including standards of governance, partnering with consumers and pressure injuries.
"During this survey it was clear there was a strong culture of accountability demonstrated by all staff," the report said.
"There was consistent evidence of ward and unit staff being aware of the elements of the various standards and being aware of how they were reflected in the day-to-day operations of their departments."
The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards also praised the department's data collection as comprehensive and consistent with the requirements of the standards.
"During the next survey period, evaluation may reveal opportunities to refine current arrangements, by reducing the frequency of data collections for those items assessed as low risk and consistently high performers," the report said.
But the report did make recommendations for ACT Health to improve some aspect of communication with patients, discharge policies, mental health management, and basic life support training.
The council urged the department to make sure the journey for patients across the hospital was seamless and any blockages were minimised.
ACT Health was also told to "evaluate the patient infection prevention and control information provided to patients to determine the needs of the target audience".
In addition, the report recommended the department update their discharge planning policy to meet best practice and to identify where improvements could be made.
Mr Corbell welcomed he report.
"The result is commendable and is a testament to the commitment of ACT Health to provide safe, high quality and equitable healthcare," Mr Corbell said.
"The surveyors highly commended ACT Health on being a consumer-focused organisation and were impressed by the level of input consumers have within the organisation."
