A hostel near Batemans Bay was gutted in a "suspicious" fire early Thursday morning.

Police are seeking witnesses after emergency services arrived to the hostel on Beach Road, Batehaven at about 1.10am to find it well alight.
"Officers from Fire & Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze; however, the building was completely destroyed," a NSW Police spokesperson said.
"The hostel was vacant at the time and no one was injured."
Officers from Far South Coast Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, however police confirmed it is being treated as suspicious.
