Thieves stole items from almost a dozen cars and left five badly damaged in a spate of break-ins in Belconnen in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police said 11 cars were broken into and items stolen included cash, an iPod shuffle, a Bluetooth in-car speaker, and clothing.
Four cars were badly damaged with doors bent down from the top of the window frame. Another car had similar damage to the sunroof.
Police were called to a Morell Close unit complex in Belconnen about 7.20am after the thefts were reported. A number of other residents at the complex approached police to report similar incidents.
Police searched the area and found other cars with damage and contacted the owners.
A number of occupants heard car alarms activated in the secure car park between 3am and 3.45am Tuesday.
Police also attended several other car break-ins in Morell Close and Beissel Street on Tuesday. Four more similar theft and property damage incidents were reported on nearby Beissel Street.
