Thieves are stealing plaques from cemetery monuments and scrap metal merchants are being asked to help look out for them.

Canberra Cemeteries issued the plea today after plaques were taken from Hall cemetery between April 10-25.
The cemetery is a small historic resting place, mainly for long-time residents of the Hall region. It has been there since the late 1800s.
“This theft is an incredibly low act and has clearly been pre-meditated,” Canberra Cemeteries manager Hamish Horne said.
“This kind of theft and vandalism is very distressing for already grieving families. ACT Policing has begun investigations and I urge anyone with any information to report it to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
Mr Horne said Canberra Cemeteries would contact families to arrange replacement plaques. Families wanting more information should call 6204 0200.
