Firefighters have declared a Canberra high school safe after a gas leak saw the school evacuated.

Staff and students self-evacuated from Melrose High School in Pearce about 12.15pm and notified the Emergency Services Agency.
Two ACT Fire and Rescue pumpers and a commander were dispatched to the school, along with a HAZMAT crew.
Firefighters conducted atmospheric testing before declaring it safe and have since left.
ActewAGL then arrived to determine the source of the leak.
