But there are several other ocean pools scattered across Sydney for those who want to avoid the Bondi traffic.

From busy to secluded, here's five of the best ocean pools across Sydney.
1. Clovelly Beach, Clovelly
Located near Bondi, this little beach has a more local vibe, with free all day parking if you get in early. The small saltwater pool sits on the south side, right next to the usually calm bay area. Snorkelling is spectacular and if you're lucky, a lifeguard will open up a sea urchin to attract the larger fish. But beware of the rocks.
2. Maccallum Pool, Cremorne Point
For views of the harbour, Maccallum Pool is a wonderful Sydney hideaway with a timber deck that is perfect for sun tanning. There is a shallow swimming area for children, but there are no changerooms, toilets or cafes nearby.
3. North Narrabeen Rockpool, Narrabeen
This pool is split into two by an iconic boardwalk, which separates lap swimmers from everyone else. It sits at the entrance of Narrabeen lagoon with a cafe nearby. Swimming lessons run throughout summer. Change room showers and toilets are available.
4. Fairy Bower Rockpool, Manly
Up north, this triangular shaped pool is one of the smallest in Sydney. It sits halfway along the Manly to Shelly Beach walk and is surrounded by sculptures known as 'The Sea Nymphs' or 'The Oceanides'. Changerooms and toilets are nearby. Perfect for the kids to splash around in, but there's no shade so long stays aren't recommended.
5. Freshwater Rockpool, Freshwater
Recently renovated in 2012, this 50m pool is located at the northern end of Freshwater Beach. Toilets, showers, playgrounds and kiosks are available. Free street parking is easy to find, making it the perfect place to spend the day.
