A man hopped into his car and glided silently away as a meeting of more than 80 Tesla vehicle owners ended and enthusiasts began their journey home.

Some had come from as far as Brisbane and Melbourne, undercutting the common belief that electric cars lacked range for long journeys out of the cities.
While some had before driven their Tesla vehicles - successfully - into outback Northern Territory, this trip brought their owners to Pialligo Estate.
On Sunday, 36 Tesla cars sat in a field near the popular venue as their owners swapped notes at the annual meet's first edition in Canberra.
A Canberran and an owner of a red, glass-topped Model S, Jude Burger said interstate members of the Tesla Owners Club of Australia preferred driving to the ACT than flying, despite the long trip.
"It's a very pleasant exercise," she said, as the event came to an end.
Quiet and low-maintenance, only the noise of the road underneath and the air conditioner could be heard in her car, the TOCA founding president said.
Tesla owners came from across the political spectrum - not just environmentalists, but people interested in car performance had embraced its vehicles.
The Model S and Model X electric cars would have collectively travelled about 48,000km by the time they returned to their garages.
Another vehicle owner, David Glynne Jones, said the cars would consume about 10 megawatt-hours of electricity, or close to 50 per cent of the average daily output of one of the 2.1MW wind turbines in the Capital Wind Farm on the eastern shoreline of Lake George.
Canberra-based cars would use as little as $5 worth of electricity at the weekend gathering, while Queensland-based cars would have a "fuel" bill of about $100.
Those travelling from interstate used the Tesla Supercharger network and Tesla Destination Chargers at accommodation venues and other places.
Tesla Superchargers were supplied with 100 per cent renewable-sourced electricity, and added 300km of range in 30 minutes, Mr Jones said.
Comparable petrol-fuelled vehicles travelling the same distance as TOCA members to and from the meet would use 5000-6000 litres of fuel, at a cost of about $7000-$9000, or an average of $200-$250 per vehicle, he said.
TOCA, an official owners club incorporated in 2016 and working closely with Tesla, had a lunch for its members before they went home.
James Hayward, who made the trip from Sydney, was one of the last to leave Pialligo Estate.
"I think we're all keen to spread the word," he said.
