"I love being the only girl and I love being the youngest. You can never lose if you've got those two things going for you!" giggles Kate Ceberano. She is talking about her recruitment onto the Apia Good Times Tour line-up as a special guest alongside Australian musical legends Joe Camilleri, Glenn Shorrock and Brian Cadd, of Little River Band (LRB). The tour is back by popular demand for its third year. "They've been going with this project for several years now and they've always been a hugely successful program because they're just these wonderful known Australian brands, two authentic artists, and now they've got this young buck amongst them, the rose between the thorns!" Ceberano giggles again. "It's awesome, it's shaping up to be a great tour."

All the artists on the tour get to play their big hits and major singles, as well as working on each other's material, which, with this group of luminaries is quite a lot of classic songs. "I'm thrilled because I get to sing all the LRB material, I get to sing all Vika's parts on Joe Camilleri's Black Sorrows' material, and I just get to play tamborine on Brian Cadd's stuff!" Cadd is a renowned songwriter who has written for John Farnham, Ringo Starr and Joe Cocker, with hits under his belt like Woman You're Breaking Me and Alvin Purple. Shorrock fronted Little River Band who cracked the US market and sold more than 25 million albums with hits like Help is on its Way and Home on Monday. Camilleri celebrated 50 years in Australian music last year and throughout his amazing career has achieved countless hits with Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons and The Black Sorrows, including Chained to the Wheel and Hit & Run. For her part, Ceberano's biggest hits include Pash and Bedroom Eyes and she has released 23 albums over 30 years in the industry.
The sponsor of the tour, Apia, provides insurance for the over-50s market, and while Ceberano is the youngest on the tour and not yet 50 herself, she says, "I see this more and more as I'm getting older, that young people forget that old people were ever young. And that the people that go to see this tour, the music was the soundtrack to their youth, so it holds for them some of the strongest memories, and this was at the onset of rock'n'roll in Australia, so the very first time, they were the innovators of Australian music, they established the whole thing. They were all being sent to war, Vietnam was going on during a lot of the massive hits of LRB and Australia was changing. So when people come and see these artists, they're really loyal to that memory."
With so many classic tracks that have been so important in people's lives, there are surely some intense emotional responses to the music the performers are playing. "Well, that's what music is put on the planet for is to provoke the parts of you that you sort of try to hold in," Ceberano says. "I do think that its prime intention is to create strong emotional impact on you for sure."
