Canberra will see in 2018 with a wink and a smile during almost 30 minutes of fireworks on New Year's Eve in Civic.

There will be two fireworks shows this year, at 9pm and midnight, with both launched from City Hill, the mound of grass where Northbourne Avenue becomes Commonwealth Avenue.
And good news for the little kids - and big kids for that matter - who can't quite make it until the clock strikes 12.
"Both shows are full tilt. There's not a lesser one, they're both insane," said Martin Brady, director of Fireworks Australia.
"The nine o'clock show is very family friendly, so we've got a really diverse range of effects because we have our biggest fan base there - the little kids and they want to see stacks of different stuff. At midnight we have all the revellers there so it will be big and crazy loud."
The displays are digitally synced to a lights show and a music soundtrack of some of the year's biggest hits.
Mr Brady, who has worked on Canberra's new year's eve fireworks shows for a number of years, said to look out for two particular new additions this year.
"We have a brand new type of smiley face shell, so it is a round face with a big beaming smile and the eyes will be winking at you," he said.
"And we've traditionally done a lot of red love hearts in the past but we have a Barbie pink love heart this year."
The Fireworks Australia team has been working on the display for almost a month, painstakingly matching fireworks to the soundtrack, and there will be about eight staff on the night working on City Hill to make the magic happen.
The fireworks are part of the Events ACT new year's eve events in the city, which are free, all-ages, alcohol-free and glass-free.
From 7pm, a family-friendly concert in Civic Square has live music from electronic duo Art vs. Science, and locals Harry Carman and the Brass Knuckle Brass Band, plus food trucks and entertainment for the kids.
Then from 9pm, Garema Place will kick into full swing with DJs and live music until 1am.
Mr Brady said both events are the best spots to guarantee a good view.
"If you can see City Hill you will be able to see the fireworks. But our fireworks show is facing Civic Square so there's where you'll really be able to get the best view," he said.
