Combined with Griffith, the suburbs will have 75 streetlights either installed or upgraded in both residential and commercial areas as part of the $400,000 project, due to be finished by June.
Minister for Transport and Municipal Services, Meegan Fitzharris, said the switch to LED lights would improve safety as their white light made the street appear brighter.
"Conventional main road street lights are orange in colour, while LEDs produce a white light," she said.
"There are both environmental and economic benefits to installing LEDs.
"The LED lights use less electricity, which reduces the cost of running and their environmental footprint, and should not require maintenance for 10 years rather than the three years expected for the existing metal halide streetlights, thereby further reducing costs."
About 70 streetlights have previously been upgraded to LEDs on Northbourne Avenue and Antill Street near Dickson, and last year Palmerston, Red Hill and Kaleen had LEDs installed to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and other road users, Ms Fitzharris said.
Signage will be erected and notices put in letterboxes to alert residents about start dates in specific areas, with most work to be done during daylight.
Similar works were also happening on Carlie Street in Evatt, at the underpasses on Ginninderra Drive near Kingsford Smith Drive and Copland Drive in Melba, and at a Coulter Drive underpass in Belconnen.
