Rapid growth in the number of readers using mobile devices has helped The Canberra Times achieve a record cross-platform audience.

In October, 863,000 people accessed the The Canberra Times across all platforms, a year-on-year increase of 4 per cent, according to the latest Enhanced Media Metrics Australia (emma) figures.
Desktop users continue to make up the majority of Canberra Times readers, with 583,000 using a desktop browser, a rise of 1 per cent year-on-year.
However, mobile phone and tablet user numbers surged 33 per cent year-on-year to 182,000.
Canberra Times editor Grant Newton said October's record audience figures showed the full range of reader interest.
"From the demise of Scotty and Nige's radio show and the impending arrival of IKEA, to the excavator crash on Parkes Way and the changes to public service pensions, we've continued every day to share the stories of our city," Newton said.
"Most of us carry access to a world of media in our pockets everywhere we go. It's good to know that fast, accurate reporting of what happens in our own backyards matters as much to readers as it ever did."
The rise in digital readership was set against a 2.4 per cent year-on-year drop in print audiences. The Canberra Times print audience for October was 227,000.
Like The Canberra Times, The Australian Financial Review also benefited from huge mobile audience growth of 101 per cent year-on-year. The Sydney Morning Herald remains Australia's most popular masthead, with total readership of more than 5 million.
