The third car fire of the past two months was contained on Thursday morning in the Pierces Creek region to the west of Canberra, near the site of the burning car that started November's dangerous bushfire.

ACT Rural Fire Service chief executive Joe Murphy said a landowner reported a column of smoke about 7.30am and firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze to a 100-square-metre area.
It came as ACT Chief Police Officer Ray Johnson confirmed arrests had been made in relation to a recent spate of stolen cars, but no one had been charged with arson in relation to the car fires.
"ACT Police is doing a lot of work at the moment on trying to reduce the rate of stolen cars," Mr Johnson said.
He said it was not yet known whether the car set alight on Thursday morning was a stolen vehicle.
Police would be targeting known and suspected arsonists during the hot weather expected at the weekend, he said.
So far in January, emergency services have been called to 25 car fires, according to the Emergency Services Agency's incident map. They attended more than 50 in December.
A stolen car was set alight in December in dense bush land in the Pierces Creek region, which spread to surrounding scrub.
In November, a bushfire burned out of control west of Kambah after it was started by a car fire.
Mr Murphy said it was good that no malicious fires had been lit on recent total fire ban days, but the community couldn't be complacent.
"We just can't be doing this. These car fires in these bush areas pose a significant hazard, a significant hazard to firefighters, the community and the bush," he said.
Police are also investigating three car fires in O'Connor on Wednesday morning, which also left a fourth car damaged.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman said earlier this month that he wanted to see more arrests and convictions for car fires, but backed the response from police and firefighters.
