Pat Godden, her daughter Helen Godden, and granddaughter Ineka Voigt have been working hard on their quilts in order to have them ready for this year's fair.

It will be the trio's third year entering their quilts in the Canberra fair, held at Exhibition Park, and they have a number of pieces in the running.

Helen has created four quilts for this year's show, including a joint work with Pat.

Pat and Ineka will be entering one solo piece each.

Between them, they have made more than 300 quilts, with all three boasting a very different quilting style – Pat creates more traditional pieces, while Helen and Ineka are art quilters.

"My style is more traditional, with precise cutting and sewing of triangles," Pat said.

For Ineka, watching her mum and grandmother quilting inspired her passion.

"When I saw my mum I was always amazed by what she did, I loved watching her. I always got a bit down on myself because I could never be as good as her, so I guess I wanted to emulate what my mum was doing and then gran came and taught me the whole traditional side of it," she said.

The hobby has also taken them around the world, with Ineka entering competitions in Japan and Australia, and Helen frequently travelling to the United States. Ineka's quilt entitled 'Spirit of Anzac', which was made using fabric from 1908, was even selected to represent Australia at the 100 year Gallipoli landings ceremony in Turkey. Ineka was lucky enough to travel there with it.

"The whole thing about that quilt was the ancestry and being passed down from generation to generation," Ineka said.

It's not just for fun though, with Helen having won a number of awards, including 11 at the world's most prestigious quilt show in Houston.

"I liked the look of Mum's fabrics, but being a professional artist I wanted to do more than just traditional blocks and patchwork," Helen said.

The Canberra Craft and Quilt Fair will be held at Exhibition Park from August 6-9.
