Severe thunderstorms delivering heavy rainfall are likely for the Canberra and Snowy Mountains region on Saturday afternoon, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned.

The bureau issued a severe weather warning shortly before 3pm, indicating the likely heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours.
"Locations which may be affected include Braidwood, Bega, Canberra, Cooma, Bombala, Tumbarumba, Nimmitabel, Tumut and Khancoban," the warning said.
The State Emergency Service advised people to avoid using the phone during storms, unplug computers and appliances and to stay indoors away from windows.
Residents should also keep clear of creeks and storm drains and avoid walking, riding a bike or driving through flood water.
For emergency help in floods and storms, the SES in both NSW and the ACT can be called on 132 500.
The next warning was due to be issued by 5.55 pm.
Sunday will bring Canberra a medium chance of showers in the morning and afternoon, with the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and early evening, and a top of 29 degrees.
