Seth Sentry has just come back from a trip to Hawaii - his first ever holiday. ''I've never actually been on a holiday you know, like a HOLIDAY holiday,'' says Sentry, real name Seth Marton. ''But then again, my whole life is a holiday, so who knows.'' It is true that Sentry is known for enjoying an alternative lifestyle that revolves around playing computer games, but since he released his debut album, This Was Tomorrow, almost a year ago, success has been wreaking havoc with Sentry's lack of ambition. He laughs, ''No, it's good. I mean, I'm 30 now so it's time to do stuff.''

The evolution from weed smoking, Call of Duty-playing couch potato to genuine hip-hop star has been a surprisingly easy one for the Melbourne-based MC who's so laid back he's almost horizontal. ''I think I've adapted quite well, you know. It's a good fit, it feels right, it feels good.'' There's a harmony to Sentry's professional and personal pursuits. He is preparing for his national Vacation tour with Mantra and Grey Ghost by ''kind of f---ing around, smoking weed and playing games''. He has also decked out the big, 11-seater tour van with a huge flat-screen TV in the back of it. ''So we can actually tour around the country and play Call of Duty at the same time as doing it.'' Bam.
Sentry is also doing pretty well in that race called ''Which Aussie MC Will Crack America First''. While Drapht is often the bookies' favourite, Seth Sentry recently blitzed a trip stateside. He won MC battles at Austin's South by Southwest festival, and performed on Jimmy Kimmell Live!, which was ''Dope. I thought it was going to be really stressful but it felt kind of like a pub gig. I had a ball. I mean, if you look at the video footage you can see pure terror in my eyes for the first, maybe, minute. But then it went and then I had fun with it.'' He also played gigs in his spiritual home of New York City. ''I'd never been to New York obviously, but being on the train, I knew all the stations and every line and where I was, just based on the rap music I used to listen to as a kid. It was sick. That was like my geography lesson. So if you want to know your way around New York, just listen to heaps of Biggy. Easy.''
Sentry's humour and intricate narrative style seems to have struck a chord in the US, but even so, ''they definitely thought I was some sort of oddity'', he says.
''You can just see when you're talking, the way they're watching you, they're entertained. I was like the bearded woman or the fish boy or something. Is there a fish boy? I dunno. Which part is the fish? It couldn't be the bottom because then he wouldn't be a boy, would he? He'd just be a fish. Maybe he's got the head of a fish and a body of a boy …'' Sentry makes a fish noise. ''He's a great beatboxer …''
