The Canberra Times has won the media category in the Violence Prevention Awards presented on Wednesday night by the ACT Government.

The other winners were the the Domestic Violence Crisis Service, Women's Centre for Health Matters, former Raiders captain Alan Tongue, Ernst and Young, and Brumbies Rugby.
From March to May 2015, The Canberra Times ran a Behind Closed Doors series in which it explored the way the ACT was responding to the national domestic violence crisis.
Judges believed the media attention made a significant contribution to public education on domestic violence and the challenges faced by victims of this type of violence.
The award was accepted by journalist Megan Gorrey, who led most of the coverage.
Mr Tongue was recognised in the education category for partnering with the Domestic Violence Crisis Service and Barnardos to go into high schools and speak to students aged 15 to 16 about domestic violence awareness.
The Women's Centre for Health Matters won the community sector category.
Ernst and Young Canberra won the private sector category for starting a process to provide financial help for those who had left abusive relationships, from car maintenance to whitegoods.
Brumbies Rugby won the sports category after making the Domestic Violence Crisis Service its charity partner and donating $20,000 to it after more than 20,000 spectators attended its match against the Waratahs in March.
The Domestic Violence Crisis Service was recognised for outstanding community project for implementing a number of initiatives over the past 12 months to better engage the wider Canberra community, including a champions program featuring high-profile people to spread the anti-violence message.
ACT Minister for Women, Yvette Berry, said 28 nominations were received across five categories and all "should feel rightly proud of their efforts".
"The way our community talks about domestic violence is changing. That change is being influenced by many Canberrans who are using their networks and skills to help our community have an informed conversation about this difficult issue," Ms Berry said.
"There is so much valuable work that is already being done to combat violence against women and children."
