What's next for South Coast's Toad and Mandy after House Rules win?

So what's next for the Candelo couple? Well, it's not all about dairy farming for the likeable pair who charmed the nation with their no-fuss attitude and some classic laconic comments from Toad, particularly, that would have given Alf Stewart a run for his money.

The couple was on Thursday still trying to deal with their life-changing windfall.

"Oh mate, we haven't actually had time for it to all sink in, I don't reckon,'' Toad said.

"It's massive. We've never had that sort of money. We've never won anything as extravagant as that. Just for it to soak in, is unbelievable. It just seems a little bit surreal. We're still tickled pink with our house.

"The house is spot and beautiful and then you throw in $355,000 on top of that, it's a fair bit to take in.''

Toad and Mandy were back to life on the farm this week, but the phone had rung off the hook from media wanting to interview the winning couple.

"Oh mate, we haven't stopped,'' he said. "I went to Cooma this morning and got a load of silage. And just got back now and unloaded. Done a few interviews and then milked a few cows. I'll go again today to get another load of silage.''

Their property, south-west of Bega,  is affected by the drought.

"We're buying in a lot of feed,'' Toad said. "It's a bit hairy at the moment. I sold a few cows on Monday night. Not ideal mate. But I think we're doing better than some of them. Some blokes have got no grass.''

With his country charm and no-bulldust attitude, Toad was a natural on TV. And he'd like to do more.

"I'd love to,'' he said.

"I don't know if I'm a natural but it'd be good to do something that's just funny. Get on a blokey show or a fishing show or something. Something where you can be yourself and make a few people laugh, make a few jokes. It'd be pretty fun, I reckon.''

Mandy also has big plans too. One is to open a beauty salon.

"I'm currently studying for that as well as business management,'' she said."When I'm finished that we can look into getting a shop somewhere and then decking it out, which is the exciting part.

"We just have to wait until then, because that will be another styling thing to do, I guess.''

Did she think about going into interior design?

"Look, I haven't thought about it but we really enjoyed doing the bathrooms. We were good at them and it wasn't as hard for us. Maybe down the track we could look at helping locals design their bathrooms.''

Mandy, who looked gorgeous in a Love Honor party frock from David Jones during the grand final telecast, said she and Toad would also get married in the next 12 to 18 months.

The plan is to have the ceremony in the church at Candelo and then a reception on the beach at Eden, the hometown of Mandy, who also has a twin.

She said the prize money meant they could invite everyone they wanted and celebrate in style. But that did not mean going over the top, saying the emphasis would be on the people there, not the styling.

"I'd like a laidback country style, a bit elegant,'' she said. "Less is more, definitely. Simple flowers, candles. Nothing too excessive.''

The couple are, for now, just enjoying life with their gorgeous 22-month-old twins, Lenny and Layla.

And while lots of backbreaking work went into each renovation and the final grand final win, that's not what they will first remember about House Rules.

"The whole experience but mainly the fun we had with the other contestants,'' Mandy said.

"We had time off between the renovations. We could go for a walk in the city, make dinner for each other. That time off the renovation site was memorable.

"During the renovations, it was just go, go go. We've never shopped as quickly in our life.''

And if social media is any indication, Toad and Mandy were definitely the choice of the Australian public.

"We want to thank everyone who supported us, it was really good,'' Mandy said.
