In addition to the change in format, all of The Canberra Times favourite sections will remain and be reinvigorated in their look and feel. This change will see our food and wine liftout renamed goodfood and move to a Tuesday.

Why are we making these changes?
For years readers have given us feedback to move away from the expansive broadsheet format. The new quality compact format will make the paper much more convenient for those of you who like to read us on the bus, at your favourite cafe or the office.
Isn't the reputation of The Canberra Times all because of the broadsheet size?
No. Our journalism has long appeared in formats other than broadsheet, including in a compact form for almost a decade in the 1950s and 1960s. It now appears on our website, on mobile phones, in feature liftouts, social media and our tablet editions. The quality reputation of our masthead will be strengthened by our changes at the same time as we increase the appeal of the weekday printed edition to people who have felt the broadsheet was oldfashioned and too cumbersome for their daily routine, in particular for those who take public transport.
Will the tone or quality of your journalism be impacted?
There will be no change to the tone or quality in our journalism. We will continue to deliver the original, highquality content that our readers know and trust, just in a more convenient size.
Will the price of the paper change?
No. The retail price and subscription prices will remain unchanged. The content of the paper is the same.
Will all the sections stay the same?
The key weekly liftouts will all remain on the same days, with only change being Food and Wine from Wednesday to Tuesday and rebranded as goodfood. They will no longer be a stand alone section, they will be printed as a part of the paper. The sections you can look forward to will continue as before as follows:
- Monday: TV Guide seven-day lift out
- Tuesday: goodfood
- Wednesday: Personal Finance and money
- Thursday: Movie reviews and entertainment
- Friday: Canberra's best weekend sports reads and previews
- Saturday: Panorama and Forum liftouts and introducing the new Traveller section
- Sunday: Relax with a new look and new features
Are the weekend papers changing too?
Yes our Saturday edition will also be moving to a compact size, and The Sunday Times will adopt a fresh new design. The same quality journalism and your favourite sections and commentators will continue in the weekend papers.
Will the focus still be on local news?
The papers will remain as distinct from each other as they've always been, reflecting our city and readership preferences.
Our newspaper exists because of our local audiences and The Canberra Times has its own voice, style and content. Where appropriate for national news, we will share stories across our mastheads, as we always have.
Does this mean the paper will have fewer stories or shorter stories?
Due to the new format some stories will be shorter and some will be longer as determined by the Editor. The new format will not materially affect the quantity of editorial or advertising content in the paper.
Why did you choose this particular size for the compact?
The compact size is already well established in the Australian market and is the same as our stablemates The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review.
Where do I find... crossword, weather, etc...?

Is the compact just a result of cost cutting/redundancies?
No.The move to the quality compact format is about giving our readers the same great content but just in a more convenient size.
