The government will spend $100,000 this coming financial year to build a new playground at Giralang, close to the shops.
They also plan to look at building multi-purpose indoor sports centre in Belconnen, as well as Woden and Gungahlin.
They've also set aside $112,000 to assess extent of remaining sub-surface infrastructure associated with the former Belconnen Sewerage Treatment Plant and establish the status of the Jarramlee Nature Reserve and the adjoining Ginninderra Creek.
There's been $250,000 set aside this budget for the $4.8 million Belconnen Bikeway promised during last year's election campaign, which will link the University of Canberra, Radford College, CIT Bruce and Bruce Stadium with the Belconnen town centre.
$3.3 million will be set aside to plan for future healthcare centres in north Canberra.
The government will also spend:
- $1.628 million this year on the Belconnen High School refurbishment;
- $15 million over three years to build a multi-use town hall/performance space, improvements to workshop spaces, new dance studios and an expanded exhibition space at Belconnen Arts Centre;
- $200,000 in 2017-18 for early planning for the extension of Bindubi Street and planning upgrades to William Hovell Drive. An extra $100,000 is budgeted for 2018-19.
- $15 million to train staff and prepare for opening of new University of Canberra public hospital.
