We've been waiting months to see what a group of artists and designers came up with when presented with 30 broken objects. And now, here it is – the Object Therapy exhibition, which brings together the objects that have been creatively repaired. The research and remaking project for Fix and Make was designed to help us "rethink our consumption patterns and re-evaluate the broken objects that surround us" from electronics and homewares to jewellery - an investigation into the culture of "transformative" repair as practiced by local, interstate and international artists and designers. The Object Therapy exhibition is showing at Nishi Grand Stair at Hotel Hotel, 25 Edinburgh Avenue, Canberra, until October 30.

Hear something strange coming from ANCA Gallery? It's just the prep work for a whimsical new show set to open this week, by Canberra artists Nicci Haynes and Shags, whose "eccentric tinkering" includes "announcements and instruments, weirdly wonderful inventions, high-low tech contraptions, buttons to press, sonic pencils, and an etching animation". Step right up and play, runs the guff! "There are no height restrictions on this ride." Sound Check, by Nicci Haynes & Shags, opens October 19 and runs until November 6 at ANCA Gallery, 1 Rosevear Place, Dickson.

It's been a long time between shows for Marie Hagerty, and this one looks to have been well worth the wait. In Blue Blooded, she has created a series of paintings that are hard to describe in words: "Hagerty's work, more than most, is to be experienced in a zone of silence where the viewer is quite simply hypnotised by laminate constructs of exhilarating fluidity," says the gallery. "Separated tonally by line and colour, floating in, around and over each other, her merging and elegantly parting shapes are like the translucent liquids of a lava lamp as they begin to warm and perform. The epitome of lyricism, Hagerty's paintings express the artist's vision and imagination through the sublime beauty of harmonious form." Blue Blooded, by Marie Hagerty, is showing at Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Gorman Arts Centre, 55 Ainslie Avenue, Braddon, from October 14 to November 19.

Also at CCAS Gorman, Tony Curran is showing recent paintings and drawings that "combine the aesthetics of the human made with machine-oriented production". "[He] combines digital data-mining processes with the traditional practice of life-drawing and painting to test the boundaries between abstract and figural drawing and painting. The resulting works sit strangely between an abstract expressionist aesthetic and a post-digital graphic language." They're also, as a result, almost illegible – see? And, in CI-Lines, Vanghoua Anthony Vue further reinterprets Hmong textile designs and written languages through "two and three-dimensional line-making across surfaces and spaces using industrial materials and processes. These are contextualised within the gallery space along with video and rave culture, allowing for a psychedelic sensory experience which blurs the line between the here and there, the exposed and the hidden, the confined and the liberated." The annual Capital Arts Patrons' Organisation is gearing up for the 2016 auction on October 22, and the 130-plus works involved will be on display at Canberra Museum and Gallery from this weekend. It will be the usual intriguing survey of works by local, professional and contemporary artists, craft and designer makers, all of which will be up for auction. The event is being celebrated with a masked soiree at CMAG, which will include food, wine, live music and an opening speech by CAPO Patron Paul McDermott. The works on show are valued from $200 and over $10,000, and include lighting, photography, painting, printmaking, drawing, jewellery, sculpture, textiles, ceramics and glass. Larah Nott and Jo Hawley have a shared interest in architecture and the language of form, but their jewellery styles are very different. Nott is fascinated by the floor plans of concert halls when constructing her miniature dimensional models. "This current body of works is developed from her ongoing Concert Hall series of brooches, originally developed to showcase what lies beneath the structures and also to start conversations about these spaces." Hawley, meanwhile, has a more abstract approach, exploring "the concept of internal and external spaces created from de/constructed domed circles". "I refer to my pieces as 'multicomponent pieces' - I often describe the pods and half shells as being letters, the 'components' as words. This has become my language - my way of expressing myself and how I see the world," she says. Alternative Views, by Larah Nott and Jo Hawley, opens at Bilk Gallery, Palmerston Lane, Manuka, on October 14 and runs until November 12.
