It's an issue that's been dominating the headlines, and now two Canberra women are doing their bit to get more local ladies involved in sport.

The brainchild of Billi McCarthy-Price and Hannah Massingham, womenCANplay is a not-for-profit site to help girls and women in the ACT get involved in sport.
Both moved to Canberra for work in the public service (Ms McCarthy-Price from Esperance in Western Australia and Ms Massingham from Melbourne), and initially struggled to get involved in playing team sports.
The pair now play basketball, but Ms McCarthy-Price said: "Hannah and I found the only reason we got involved was because we knew someone who already played."
They were awarded a $2000 Great Ydeas grant from the YWCA to start their website, womenCANplay, which launched this week and includes information on not only the sports available to women, but also the costs, equipment and time involved.
"We hope it will increase women's confidence to get involved in sports," Ms McCarthy-Price said. "We hope that we will be able to contribute to increased participation rates."
The pair hope to eventually be able to give out grants to help women with the financial burden that comes with playing many team sports, and they hope to start more conversations about how to get women into sport and keep them playing.
