Eight young golfers from Canberra and Queanbeyan will fly next week to the Queensland to compete in the Australian boys' and girls' amateur championships and the interstate teams tournament.

Boys' team captain Aaron Maxwell and Lachlan Chamberlain, who have previously played at this level, will join fellow Federal Golf Club members Leighton Price and Will Brearley, along with Harry Smith (Queanbeyan Golf Club) and James Hynes (Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club).
Queanbeyan Golf Club's Amber Thornton and Royal Canberra's Isabelle Hawes will compete in the girls' championship.
Winners of the competition receive exemptions in to the men's and women's Australian Opens, making them hotly contested by junior players.
Previous winners of the competition include Robert Allenby, Adam Scott and Jason Day.
The ACT-Monaro District Golf Association's district junior golf manager, Gail Coiser, said the teams were excited to play in the prestigious event.
She said the chance to play against international golfing stars in the men's and women's Australian Opens was a tremendous reason for the teams to focus on their preparation and performance during the events.
The competitions, which are open to players aged 18 and under on the first day's play, will be played between April 10 and 17.
