Returning to Canberra for the fourth time, the open-air markets this year have 21 food stalls blending eastern and western flavours, serving up everything from a deep-fried gelato katsu sandwich, to noodles, dumplings, curries and even a burger named the ACT ('Asian chicken tonkatsu' burger).
New to the event this year is Canberra's KorBQ. The Civic Korean charcoal barbecue restaurant will be serving up Korean fried chicken, deep fried octopus, and chicken skin crackling.
Co-owner Jocelyn Jiang said the restaurant had its first pop-up at the recent National Multicultural Festival, where they sold more than one tonne of food - and they expect to sell even more over the 10 nights of the noodle markets.
"We really like the noodle markets - we always go there every year ourselves [as customers]," she said. "We're very excited to be part of it this year."
This year has 21 stalls blending eastern and western flavours, with a food lineup including Donburi Station, Chur Burger, Gelato Messina, Hoy Pinoy, Mr Bao, Poklol, Puffle, Satay Brothers, and What the Pho.
Those with a sweet tooth will be looked after with unique creations from Gelato Messina, Black Star Pastry, N2 Gelato and Waffeland.
What you need to know
When: The markets run from Friday March 2 to Sunday March 11. They open from 5pm on weekdays and 4pm on the weekends, so you can get there early and fill up on delicious food before the Enlighten projections switch on at dusk. The Noodle Markets are open until 9pm Monday to Wednesday, 10pm on Thursday, midnight on Friday and Saturday, and 9pm Sunday.
Where: Reconciliation Place, in between the National Portrait Gallery and Questacon.
What's on the menu: There are 21 stalls to choose from and there are gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian, dairy free, egg free and Halal options.
How much: Entry to the Noodle Markets is free.
How to get there: After 5pm, there are lots of free parking options throughout the parliamentary triangle. Due to congestion, it's sometimes best to park a little bit further away and walk back in. Free loop shuttle buses will also be running on March 2, 3, 9 and 10 from the City bus interchange and Russell.
Good to know: The event is completely cash-free, with EFTPOS available at all stalls. It's all ages, and dogs are also welcome.
