Those are the words a Tuggeranong man charged with threatening to kill allegedly uttered after telling his partner had already paid for her funeral.

The man, 51, allegedly grew angry and began to make a series of threats when he returned home to the woman and their young child after he had a few drinks with a colleague last Friday night, court documents said.

He became agitated when he couldn't find his reading glasses, accusing the woman of having someone at the home while he was out.

The man allegedly called her a slut and told her: "You're nothing but a two-dollar whore."

Later that night when the woman went to bed, he is alleged to have told her to "get out of my f---ing bed", before he said he would kill her, her children and her family members.

The pair argued again the next day and she fled to a relative's house with her children because she feared for her safety.

When she returned the next day to pick up some belongings, she got into an argument with the man, court documents stated.

The man allegedly told her he had already paid for his funeral and her own, to which she replied she wouldn't need a funeral for another 70 years.

"Your days are numbered," he said.

The woman packed her things and later reported the incidents to police.

Court documents said the woman told police she showed her partner "no fear" so that he would not keep "beating up" on her and the children.

"I think to myself, maybe it would be better if my days were numbered so I don't have to go through with this and my kids don't have to go through with this."

Some nights she didn't sleep for fear she would fall into a deep slumber and her partner would kill her "then and there", she is alleged to have said.

"I don't know when I'm going to wake up; I don't know what he's going to do.

"I lay in bed like I've just closed my eyes all night because I fear for my kids especially when he says he's going to kill them."

Police later charged the man with recklessly threatening to kill another person and he appeared before Magistrate Peter Morrison in the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutors opposed an application for bail on grounds he would likely reoffend and could endanger the woman and her children.

A police informant told the court the man had numerous bail breaches for family violence matters in Queensland that were linked to his ex-partner on his record.

The informant said the man's current partner claimed the offender was an alcoholic and arguments between the pair escalated when he drank.

Mr Morrison denied bail and said the combined effect of the man's prior breaches and evidence of alcoholism meant he couldn't be satisfied conditions would address the risk he might reoffend.

The case will be mentioned in the family violence list next month.
