"AUSTRALIANS' PART. A GREAT FEAT.
"Reuter's Agency, writing from Cairo, states that many stirring tales of the fighting at the Dardanelles on April 25, 26, and 27 have been related by wounded Australians and New Zealanders, who have been brought to Alexandria and Cairo for treatment.
"All the men speak with glowing pride of the part they played in the great fight [that] depended entirely on extraordinary dash and daring.
"Here is the story of one of the men who participated in the fight.
" 'It was a game; the best we have ever had. We wanted to let the Turks know what Australian steel was like, and they tasted it all right. They ran screaming and yelling before us … I saw two New Zealanders chasing 11 Turks, and the latter, with terror-stricken faces, were howling and wailing. The shrapnel and machine gun fire all this time was terrible, but nothing could stop our boys. On they went, the big lads lifting the Turks on the ends of their bayonets, and flinging them over their heads. It was a great game.' "
