Ian Campbell has endured the odd joke about putting the conservative back into conservation. Since leaving politics and signing up with the world's most controversial anti-whaling group, the former Howard government environment minister has no regrets about forging an alliance with Paul Watson, skipper of the whaling protest ship Steve Irwin and a man whom Campbell once described as a "lunatic in a boat".
