Instead, he spent his afternoon at the site of his friend's violent death, watching strangers stop to leave flowers for the man who picked him up from the airport on his first day in Australia 18 months ago.

Mr Amjid was the first at the scene of the Caltex service station on Friday morning as he came in to swap shifts with Mr Akbar.

"When I saw him, there was no movement," he said.

"I called 000 and when they did not take him in an ambulance or to the hospital, that showed to me there was no more."

Mr Amjid shared a house with Mr Akbar, who first helped him get a job at Caltex.

He said Mr Akbar was a strong bowler on their cricket team and a strong friend who could always be relied upon.

"He was an active part of the community and whatever you were doing, whatever you were calling for, he was there," he said.

"He was kind of a guy who could drive two hours just for a breakfast [with a friend]. He was there in everything, whether it's planning a barbecue or a party in the night."

Mr Akbar's loss has not just been mourned in Queanbeyan's Pakistani community.

Members of the community continued to drop flowers at the service station on Friday and Saturday after news of the tragedy spread.

Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council administrator Tim Overall said the city's community had come together as one to support Mr Akbar's loved ones.

He said the town's sympathies were with Mr Akbar's parents in Karachi, where his body was expected to be buried.

"This is my local servo and a lot of other people's local as well, so I know the guys there and would come there about once a week and talk to them after filling up," he said.

"Most people are in shock and it's something everybody's talking about, because these sort of things just don't happen in Queanbeyan."

The two teenagers charged with Mr Akbar's murder were extradited from the ACT to Queanbeyan Police Station on Saturday morning.
