A prison officer was driving seven inmates of the minimum-security facility in the vehicle when it rolled on the farm within the centre.
“The officer and three inmates sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by Justice Health staff and NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being transported to hospital,” Corrective Services said in a statement.
Two other inmates were seriously injured, and the Snowy Hydro Southcare Rescue Helicopter was called to the scene. It transported the two patients to Wagga Base Hospital in a stable condition.
Another two inmates in the vehicle were not injured.
The Mannus Correctional Centre, which houses 164 men, says on its website that inmates “are employed in afforestation work, livestock and agricultural activities, viniculture, horticulture, apple orchard, building maintenance, forklift and tractor operations”.
Police attended the scene and investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
