But for many, this beautiful country we live in is more than just a home - it's hope. Hope for a better future for not just themselves, but for their children and their children's children. Hope for equality, where women and men are treated equally with respect. Hope for young Australians, where they are not limited in what they want to do.
Growing up in an Asian family, the idea of becoming a journalist was out of the question - not because it doesn't pay like a doctor or pharmacist, but because you rarely saw or heard of an Asian journalist. But my hopes and dreams to become a journalist have been made easier because of how Australia has changed and adapted.
We've opened our doors to help those looking for a new home and fresh start. We've cried, mourned, laughed and celebrated together and we've come together, stronger when people try to tear us down.
So when people say Australia is the lucky country, they are right. We're lucky to live in a place where the beach or bush is just a drive away and no matter where you go, there's always someone to say G'day.
