It all started when Opals centre Liz Cambage, 24, attended a #blacklivesmatter rally in Melbourne about 10 days ago, part of a movement started in the US hoping to end police violence against people of colour.

She tweeted about it calling the event a powerful, yet peaceful, afternoon.

But fellow outspoken Australian basketballer, NBA star Andrew Bogut, was less than supportive, writing that protesting against police brutality in Melbourne was like "protesting for less jumbo jets to be on highways".

Cambage snapped back that Bogut should educate himself.

The argument seemed to simmer down between the two Victorian sport stars, until the ABC's Four Corners aired a story about the shocking abuse of juvenile detainees at the hands of prison guards in the Northern Territory on Monday night.

That was when Indigenous Australian rapper Briggs suggested Bogut tune in, because he might learn something.

Bogut issued a tongue-in-cheek apology for what he said about the #blacklivesmatter movement in Melbourne.

He then lashed out at Briggs, calling him the self anointed CBF (can't be f----d) world champion.

Seemingly out of nowhere, a Twitter user purporting to be Ryan Moloney, the Neighbours actor who plays long-time character Toadie, chimed in asking why the two were arguing and Briggs called Bogut an "ignorant goose".

Cambage jumped back into the conversation, telling Bogut his change of heart on the issue was better late than never, but Bogut fired up again taking a swipe at her for skipping a team camp to attend the Splendour in the Grass music festival in Byron Bay.

With the Rio Olympics less that two weeks away, there has not yet been an obvious resolution to the very public fight.
