Simplistic analysis of Abbott off mark

Tony Abbott is coming ever closer to becoming prime minister. In hindsight this is an unlikely development as he came from well behind in the race to be Liberal Leader and Opposition Leader. While not exactly matching Olympic ice-skater Steven Bradbury for good fortune, Abbott did benefit from successive surprises as first Peter Costello then Brendan Nelson, Malcolm Turnbull and finally Joe Hockey fell over in the Liberal leadership stakes.
