Savouring magic of the local bookshop

One cannot eat books, of course. But for literary gastronomes like me, the bookshop is a magic smorgasbord: having gorged on pages, I still leave with an appetite for more. Some prophesised apocalypse for bricks-and-mortar bookshops, yet this feast continues in cities internationally. We hunger, not only for words, but for the providores who stack and sell them from polished shelves. What about bookshops is so tantalising in an age of Kindles and fast fiction?
