A man has been arrested in relation to the stabbing of a Hervey Bay mother and son, after fellow drivers said he was throwing objects, believed to be evidence, out of his white ute.

Witnesses said a similar car was seen fleeing from the crime scene at speed as the injured victims ran out of their home searching for help and flagged down neighbours in the residential street.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mick Polit said the mother, aged 82, and her 50-year-old son suffered stab wounds to their neck and torso inside a home on Mungara Court in Wondunna.
Police were called about 9.15am and declared a crime scene, as paramedics rushed the victims to Hervey Bay Hospital. One was in a serious condition, the other was serious but stable.
About 10.30am, police arrested a New South Wales man and seized a white ute along with several pieces of evidence.
Detectives were led to the man by members of the public, who reported him acting suspiciously and throwing objects out of his vehicle as he drove through nearby Point Vernon.
Senior Sergeant Polit said the man was initially taken to the watchhouse but then sent to Hervey Bay Hospital "for his own wellbeing". He had not suffered any physical injuries.
A knife was found at the residence, more knives were found in the ute and several other items believed to have been thrown out of the vehicle were also recovered, Senior Sergeant Polit said.
Detectives were yet to speak with the victims as they were still undergoing treatment in hospital and had not been able to speak with the arrested man in any great detail.
Investigations were continuing, with police treating the incident as an attempted murder.
