A man has died after police responded to reports of a disturbance on Brisbane's southside and put dozens of surrounding homes into lockdown.

A police service spokesman said officers were called on Carrara Street in Mount Gravatt East about 10.15am after a man was causing a disturbance and threatening self-harm.
An exclusion zone was established, with residents asked to stay inside and drivers directed away from the area.
The exclusion zone encompassed Cavendish Road, Camlet Street, Little Cavendish Road, Boambillee Street, Wunulla Street, Carrara Street and Nursery Road.
However, police announced that the emergency declaration had been revoked about 12.20pm after the man was found dead.
Police said the man's death was being treated as a self-harm incident.
