The call came after federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten shifted his rhetoric on Adani last week, saying federal Labor was "increasingly sceptical" about Adani's project in the Galilee Basin.

The federal Labor leader has also accused the mining company of offering "fake jobs", a claim that has been refuted by Adani, which said it had already created 800 jobs.

"I'm beginning to wonder if the people of north Queensland are being sort of led on with this promise of fake jobs and they'll never be able to materialise," Mr Shorten said.

Asked about Mr Shorten's comments, Ms Palaszczuk called for Adani to prove it was meeting its goals.

"They were given the green light about eight months ago now," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"We've been very firm in that they need to get on with those jobs.

"That project needs to stack up financially, just as every other resource company investing in Queensland needs to stack up."

Asked if she thought Adani was offering "real jobs", Ms Palaszczuk said: "Well, we need to make sure that the milestones are met."

"And that is an issue for the company," she said.

"Other companies meet their milestones and it is up to Adani to show the people of this state that they are meeting their milestones.

"We're yet to see some of those milestones being met."

Ms Palaszczuk confirmed those milestones were job-creation and financial backing.

"It's up to Adani to demonstrate to the people of this state that those jobs are forthcoming," she said.

"It all hinges on getting the finance - so it is up to the company to get the finance."

An Adani Australia spokesman said the company had 800 people working across operations and projects in Queensland and had invested $3.3 billion in Australia.

"Our people are working on planning and early works for the mine and rail," he said.

"Further ramp up depends on the outcome of the current federal court proceeding and subsequent agreed freeholding of land at our mine.

"Each month we pay $7.2 million in salaries to our direct staff and seconded employees (average for last six months)."

The spokesman said Adani remained committed to the Carmichael project.

"Numerous court processes have found the approvals that have been grated to the project are sound," he said.

"Ample regulations, checks and balances are in place to give the public confidence. The mine, rail and port will be operated in a way that continues to be safe and sustainable."

Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington accused Ms Palaszczuk of risking Queensland jobs.

"Again, we see Annastacia Palaszczuk backing Bill Shorten in and his job over the jobs of thousands of Queenslanders," she said.

"If it is the case that Adani has gone through all of the approvals processes and have been approved, then the project should go ahead.

"It is up to Adani to go ahead and create those jobs for Queensland."

The Greens and environmental groups have been campaigning hard against the Queensland mine, ahead of a by-election in the inner-Melbourne seat of Batman.

During the election campaign, Ms Palaszczuk was haunted by anti-Adani protesters until she announced the Queensland government would veto a potential $1 billion Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility loan for Adani's rail line.
