The Story Bridge will close on Friday night and remain off-limits to road traffic until Monday morning as council carries out "essential waterproofing works".

To help ease the burden on inner-city drivers, the Clem7 tunnel tolls will be waived during the closure and traffic will also be rerouted along the Captain Cook Bridge.
A full closure between Main Street and Bowen Terrace
Lord mayor Graham Quirk said a partial closure was not possible due to the scale of work being undertaken and hoped the repairs would be completed in a single weekend, weather permitting.
“This (closure) is for very important works on the bridge, waterproofing components," he said.
“There won’t be so much diversions in place, but there will be the normal traffic arrangements.
"We will get as much information as we can out to people in the lead-up to this weekend, understanding people like to travel with a plan in place.
"There’s got to be a lot of ripping up a lot of the bitumen surface along that corridor and that’s going to mean that we are going to have to undertake a full closure rather than a partial one."
According to the Brisbane City Council website, the bridge will be closed from 9pm Friday to 5am Monday.
"A detailed investigation of concrete elements on the Story Bridge identified the presence of concrete deterioration accelerated by water ingress in the south approach of the bridge deck slabs and beams," the website reads.
"Concrete repairs in recent years have fixed some of the concrete damage to the slabs and beams attributed to water infiltration, however, the installation of a waterproofing system is essential to maintaining the life of the concrete elements."
The council said traffic controllers and police would be onsite throughout the closure and access for pedestrians and cyclists would be maintained during the repairs.
Some bus routes would be impacted by the closure, with TransLink saying three services will be diverted and miss some stops.
The affected buses will be 227, 232 and 234. According to the TransLink website, customers would need to catch alternative services or use an alternative bus stop.
Public transport commuters will need to catch an alternative service to Woolloongabba Busway Station and then transfer to their normal bus.
The following Brisbane City and Fortitude Valley bus stops will be out of action:
- Edward Street near Queen Street (Stop 142);
- Eagle Streetnear Eagle Lane (Stops 63 and 64);
- Queen Street near Adelaide Street(Stop 66);
- Queen Street near Ann Street (Stop 67);
- Wickham Street near Gotha Street (Stop 226); and
- Wickham Street near Brunswick Street (Stop 228).
TransLink also said three Kangaroo Point bus stops could not be used on the weekend, so customers needed to be aware of an alternative stop - Main Street at St Vincent's (Stop 7).
The bus stops affected were Main Streetat Story Bridge East (Stop 6), Shafston Avenue at Connor Street (Stop 7/10) and Shafston Avenue at Salstone Street (Stop 11).
