But the Sydney Roosters insist their decision to stay indoors and away from the harsh elements won't hurt their chances of upsetting the Raiders at Canberra Stadium tonight.
While a repeat of the memorable snow game from 2000 between the Raiders and the Wests Tigers is unlikely, David Furner's troops displayed their hunger to keep their finals hopes alive by braving the miserable conditions yesterday morning.
The Raiders didn't cut any corners in their bid to rack up three consecutive wins for the first time since the 2010 finals series.
Meanwhile, the Roosters arrived in Canberra yesterday afternoon and cancelled their scheduled training session at Northbourne Oval to eliminate the risk of picking up injuries in the heavy rain.
Instead, guests at the Crowne Plaza were treated to an impromptu show of ball work as players engaged in handling drills in the hotel foyer. Roosters forward Boyd Cordner denied the visitors were at a disadvantage by electing to pull the pin on training.
''No I don't think so,'' he said. ''Yesterday was a pretty sharp session and we got a lot in. I don't think it's the be-all and end-all that we didn't get a training session in.
''We're doing some handling skills in the foyer to blow some cobwebs out.''
Cordner was excited to hear he could have the chance to replicate the famous snow match from May 28, 2000 when a Raiders side that included Furner beat the Tigers 24-22. It doesn't appear there will be another white-out tonight, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting isolated showers and a top of 13 degrees.
Raiders players took to social media after completing their session in what for many of them were the coldest conditions they have trained in.
Centre Blake Ferguson tweeted: ''Officially got to see real snow today while training OMG it was cold. Still trying to get feeling in the fingers again :).''
Winger Sandor Earl - who is in the midst of his first winter in Canberra after joining the club mid-season - tweeted, ''Haha welcome roosters we just trained in the snow craziest experience eva #literally.''
Cooma junior and Raiders halfback Sam Williams has seen it all before, tweeting, ''Training in the snow brings back memories of Cooma Colts u/8s, it's still no fun #frostbite.''
While the Roosters are desperate to avoid the wooden spoon, the Raiders have the chance to return to an even win-loss record (11-11) for the first time since round four.
Furner has adopted the pre-game camp that served them well against the Broncos a fortnight ago, the team bunkering down in a hotel across the border to ensure it has the best preparation possible for the must-win encounter.
The Raiders have taken a 19-man squad into camp, hooker Glen Buttriss and second-rower Jarrad Kennedy on standby for injured pair Joel Thompson and Joe Picker.
Furner wants increased defensive effort after seeing his side turn around a six-point deficit on its way to beating Penrith last week.
''Our destiny's in our own hands and I think the players know what's expected of them,'' Furner said.
''We need to be very good defensively and it's something we weren't in the first 20 minutes last week.''
