New coach Ewen McKenzie named a 40-man squad on Friday morning.

The Brumbies' bolters are Scott Fardy and Tevita Kuridrani as well as uncapped trio Nic White, Matt Toomua and Scott Sio.

They will be joined by Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore, Ben Mowen, Christian Lealiifano, Joseph Tomane, Jesse Mogg and Peter Kimlin.

The Brumbies are preparing to play in a Super Rugby semi final against the Pretoria Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday morning Australian time.

They are the only Australian team left in the title race and finished at the top of their conference just two years after the club hit rock bottom at the end of the 2011 season.

Coach Jake White has transformed the Brumbies, bringing back a winning culture that saw the club win two titles in 2001 and 2004.

The 12-strong Wallabies contingent doesn't include injured players David Pocock, Pat McCabe or Dan Palmer while legend George Smith has also been left out because he's due to return to Japan next month.

Winger Henry Speight was not considered for selection given the Fijian isn't eligible to qualify as an Australian player until September.

It's a remarkable turnaround from the rabble at the Brumbies in 2011.

When White took over, there were just three current Wallabies in a 35-man squad.

"The guys will get rewarded for team success. And they will because they don't do it for themselves, they do it for the right reasons," White said.

"They know if the Brumbies are successful, they will get rewarded. If you play in a good team and do well, you get individual accolades.

"The better we do, the more difficult it's going to be not to pick them.

"I'd like to see all of the Brumbies involved. Our job is to produce people to play for Australia. My job as a head coach is to get boys to come to a program and then help them play for their country."

McKenzie beat White for the Wallabies job earlier this month.

The Brumbies are still in the title race while McKenzie's Queensland Reds were knocked out last week.

But World Cup-winning South African coach White declared earlier this week that he had nothing to prove to the ARU by being successful at Super Rugby.

The two big shock selections for the Brumbies were Fardy and Kuridrani.

Fardy has spent his career toiling away with little reward and was overlooked by Australian franchises in his younger days.

He decided to play in Japan and when White took over, he spotted him playing and recruited him to Canberra.

Now 29 years old and with just two years of Super Rugby under his belt, Fardy can push his claims for a Wallabies berth.

Kuridrani is the flying Fijian in the Brumbies' back line.

He also boasts less than two years of Super Rugby experience and was given an extended chance to impress when regular Brumbies outside centre Andrew Smith got injured in March.

Wallabies 1991 World Cup winning coach Bob Dwyer says Kuridrani can be better than Brumbies and Wallabies great Stirling Mortlock.

Mortlock played 117 games for the Brumbies and 74 Tests for Australia, including captaining the Wallabies to the 2007 World Cup.

But Dwyer backed Kuridrani's development.

''I think he could be our best outside-centre since Jason Little, and that includes Stirling Mortlock and Daniel Herbert as well,'' Dwyer told Fairfax Media in May.

''People that instinctively run straight are very few and far between … you need to stop defenders filling the width of the field and he does that.''

Kuridrani was getting ready to give up rugby two years ago but the Brumbies offered him a place and the former Australian under-20s representative has started to repay the faith put in him by White.

Kuridrani is from the same Fijian village as former Canberra Raiders try-scoring machine Noa Nadruku.
