Larkham will join the Wallabies in camp next week after the Brumbies play the Japan Sunwolves on Sunday and fight to get ahead in the race for Australia's guaranteed Super Rugby finals berth.

Kennedy and interim Brumbies chief executive Phil Thomson met this week to discuss Larkham's tenure and how to structure a new deal to keep him at the club beyond the end of the season.

Larkham has already declared his commitment to Canberra and is happy to juggle his double life as the Brumbies leader and a Wallabies' back-line specialist.

The Brumbies are set to table a deal to re-sign him for two or three more seasons.

A new three-year contract would align Larkham's deal with Wallabies coach Michael Cheika's contract extension until the end of the 2019 World Cup.

Larkham, 41, is viewed by many as a Wallabies coach in waiting and a three-year deal with the Brumbies would pave the way for him to step into the role when Cheika's tenure finishes.

Larkham's sole focus is on leading the Brumbies into the Super Rugby finals, but he will briefly put that job on pause to help the Wallabies in their three-Test series against England.

Cheika is set to name his squad in the coming days, with a host of Brumbies set to be told as early as Thursday that they've been picked for the massive mid-year series.

Players will then have one last game against the Sunwolves to press their claims for a Test jersey as competition for starting spots intensifies.

Larkham and the Brumbies are chasing the NSW Waratahs on the Australian conference ladder and must win their remaining four games to snatch a finals spot.

Larkham has been the sole man in charge at the Brumbies for the past two seasons and worked in a co-coaching capacity with Laurie Fisher in the 2014 campaign.

He is also one of the only professional coaches to still play rugby, lacing up his boots to play for the Wests' fourth-grade side last weekend.

But the Brumbies view the Super Rugby and World Cup-winning playmaker as the man to guide the club back to the top of the competition and win a drought-breaking title.

The Brumbies will work with the Australian Rugby Union to discuss how best to juggle Larkham's two roles.

"Both parties are very keen to come to an agreement and at the moment we don't see any impediments, it's just a matter of finding the time," Kennedy said.

"We're in contact with the ARU to see what plans they have for Stephen as well and we support his career aspirations with whatever opportunities there are.

"Stephen has already said he's committed and he wants to continue what he's working on here and I think we're all on the same page."

The future of Canberra's National Rugby Championship team is also set to be discussed this week as officials decide how it will function moving into the future.

The Canberra Vikings have played in the first two seasons of the NRC but the team's name was likely to be changed to the Kookaburras this year to align with the capital's rugby history.

Meanwhile, Larkham is weighing up his selection options for the clash against Super Rugby newcomers the Sunwolves.

The Sunwolves have won just one game this season, but the Brumbies are set to roll out a near full-strength team as they battle the Waratahs and Melbourne Rebels for ladder positions.

Larkham has also called juniors Nick Jooste and Jordan Jackson-Hope back to Canberra to join the Brumbies squad for training as cover for inside back positions.

Jooste and Jackson-Hope are part of the Australian Under-20s squad in camp in Sydney preparing for the Junior World Cup, but have been released to boost the Brumbies ranks.
