The Brumbies will re-sign Hyne on Thursday after playing four games this year. The versatile back-rower will compete for a starting spot after the departure of Scott Fardy and Jordan Smiler.
Hyne could start his mission to impress when the Canberra Vikings play against Queensland Country at Viking Park on Saturday in the first game of the NRC season.
The Vikings will wear an ACT Kookaburras heritage jersey for the round-one clash in the hope it unites Canberra's rugby community.
Hyne made his Super Rugby debut last year, but was on the field for less than five minutes when he injured his ankle and was ruled out for the rest of the season.
The Brumbies offered him a new deal and he played four games this year, but averaged just 23 minutes.
